What Some Of Our Students Have To Say
About Your Tutor
I’ve been practicing art professionally for over 15 years, and teaching art to hundreds of students for the last ten of those as well. When we opened up our London studio back in 2013, I had no idea that it would later become an internationally-recognised place of study for classical drawing and painting. The Barnes Atelier’s success is due to the huge amount of effort our students put in to their studies year after year— something that helps make the joy of teaching so worthwhile.
My goal for Online Mentorship is to try and bring the same rigorous tuition and expectations which helped shape The Barnes Atelier studio practice, to artists working remotely in their homes.

I look forward to starting work with you!
FAQs
What happens after I sign up?
After signing up you will receive a welcome email containing a link for booking your first live Zoom session for a quick meet & greet with your tutor. You will also receive an Google Drive access invitation for setting up your personal folder on our studio’s account.
Is the online mentorship appropriate for beginners?
Certainly. It’s also good for more advanced students/artists. Like any personal guidance, the instruction is centred around making improvements on an individual level.
How much teaching time will I receive?
Each week you will have access to:
(1) Live Zoom Critique— approx. 30-45 minutes
(1) Recorded Video Critique— approx. 15-20 minutes
Unlimited email access
How much time must I commit to the exercises each week?
Like any training programme, whether it be fitness, dietary, or artistic, you get out what you put in. You’ll want to be able to allow for a minimum of three hours per week to see any progress for your efforts.
Do I have to commit to a monthly subscription?
Most artists we work with are looking for long-term tuition and guidance, and likewise, we look for students who are hard-working, eager to learn, and able to make that same commitment. However should artists wish to pause or stop their learning with us, intermitantly or altogether, the mentorship programme can be cancelled at anytime from within your account.
Is there a certificate upon completion?
Artists who work from, and successfully complete, exercises from the Barnes Atelier studio curriculum will receive the same certificate as in-house students.
What equipment will I need to learn online?
Apart from studio materials, online students will need some form of camera(phone) and a laptop or larger screen to view their critiques. Internet access and a Zoom account are also required for any video communication.
Still have questions?
We’d be happy to discuss any questions or concerns you may have— just send us a message.
