About Barnes Atelier
Our History
The Barnes Atelier was started by artists Travis Seymour and Nancy Fletcher, together classically trained at the Angel Academy in Florence as well as The Water Street Atelier and Grand Central Academy in New York.
We provide a core, full-time atelier diploma programme in classical drawing & painting, with a supporting online mentorship programme, and schedule of masterclasses and workshops held throughout the year.
Our Mission
To help artists reach their creative potential by teaching them the necessary drawing and painting skills required for successful realist painting.
Our Philosophy
The efforts of the realist painter are only hindered in so far as to the limits of his or her drawing ability. Additionally, the ability to master the art of observation does not necessarily make one a good draughtsman.
At the Barnes Atelier, we believe that the means justify the ends – that drawings and paintings are constructed, not just copied; and that the ability to adapt to nature and, when necessary, improve upon it, gives the artist a level of mastery over their materials and confidence over their work.
